Ronalds Rozkalns, attorney at law, participated in discussion broadcasted on Latvian Radio regarding effective protection of patients’ rights in Latvia and recent judgments of European Court of Human Rights which criticize Latvia for not observing human rights in health care sector.
The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Latvia invites to participate in academic seminar “Access to Healthcare – the Possibility to Implement the Rights Provided by the Constitution and by laws”. Since the Soviet times it has been established the medical records are intended only for prosecutors as well as for personal use of medical professionals. Nowadays the situation has changed a lot. Most common mistakes in managing of medical records and how to avoid them.
In order to safeguard the privacy of medical professionals the amendments in Regulations of Cabinet of Ministers provide they are no more required to indicate their personal codes in medical records and prescriptions. Instead medical professionals are now able to use special identification numbers issued by the Health Inspectorate.
The European Health Law Conference “Access to Health Care: Looking for a Legal Road Map” took place in University of Latvia, Riga, 28-29 April, 2014. The conference was dedicated to issues regarding today’s critical challenges in European health law in respect to access to health care.

Ronalds Rozkalns participated in the meeting of experts regarding the evaluation of the amount of harm caused to a patient within the scope of Medical Treatment Risk Fund. The meeting was arranged by the Latvian Medical Association together with the Health Inspectorate of Latvia.
